About Transforming Techniques Incorporated (TTI)

Transforming Techniques Incorporated is dedicated to improving the lives of people with disabilities and/or brain injuries. It is equally dedicated to reducing of the incident of Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) by increasing public awareness and advocating for pro-active changes in the law. The primary service provided by TTI is Professional, Rehabilitation Counseling. In addition to Professional Counseling, TTIoffers other services that increase its capacity to meet the needs of the disabled public and help reduce the number of brain injuries (see SERVICES below).

The concept of TTI evolved as a result of the Founder and Principle, Mark J. Condon's experience of a traumatic brain injury; the "rehabilitation life style" that followed; his post injury academic success; substantial experience in rehabilitation counseling; and the publicly recognized "unmet" psycho-social needs of millions of survivors.

Mr. Condon, a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Rehabilitation Counselor, has demonstrated a unique ability to communicate his experience in a way that benefits disabled men, woman, children, and their extended families who are working to make positive choices when adjusting to life with a disability. He has earned the respect of many rehabilitation professionals and agencies that regularly refer clients to TTI. Mr. Condon's counseling service is made available through Transforming Techniques Incorporated, a Colorado based 501C3 Non-Profit Corporation.

Counseling Approach

TTI's rehabilitation counseling technique usually begins with education for both survivor and family. Counseling may include a variety of interventions based on the client's particular needs. In fact, the client's needs are the focal point for work with a TTI counselor. Generally the preferred technique, based on the scientific research, is a Realistic, Solution-Focused, Behavioral approach. Such an approach often includes challenging clients (or inviting them to challenge themselves) to explore problems and opportunities, develop compensation strategies, set goals, and actively pursue these goals. Traditional psychotherapy can be ineffective for treating some survivors of brain injury. Many do not find their situation improving from venting feelings or self understanding. TTI's approach goes beyond venting feelings and emphasizes awareness and problem solving - two psycho-social dynamics often compromised by a brain injury.

TTI counselors and their clients work together in devising integrated, individualized counseling plans that offer realistic success, consistent with the client's abilities and circumstances. This individualized plan is coordinated with the other health care professionals involved in the client's treatment. TTI counselors and clients regularly review counseling plans to ensure their continued viability and effectiveness.

Many of TTl's treatment paradigms, especially effective for people with brain injuries, also benefit those with other types of disabilities, and the general public.

No two brain injuries are alike with regard to outcomes and treatment interventions. Degrees of disability vary widely taking into account: pre-injury physical, emotional, and cognitive attributes; location, severity, and manner of the injury; family support system; financial resources available for rehabilitation; participation in quality rehabilitation programs; and work with competent therapists. A brain injury can affect every area of a person's life. TTI counselors are fully aware of this and recruit as many support systems as possible to assist the survivor in making quality life choices post injury. Families are usually important in clients' lives and TTI strives to enlist family understanding and involvement as a positive resource, when appropriate. A support system that many survivors rely on is faith in a Higher Power. If that is the case with a given client, they are encouraged to develop their faith through the guidance of their pastor, priest, or rabbi. TTI will "build" on that guidance as it supports the client and helps them reach their rehabilitation goals.
