To Whom it may concern:
I am writing to explain the benefits we have received from our counseling work with Mark J. Condon. I am 51 years old and my fiance' is 56 years old. Both of us have been married before, we´ve both had bad experiences, and both have pursued counseling, off and on, over the years. Jim and I agreed to do premarital, couples counseling before we got too involved with our relationship.
We met Mr. Condon by chance shortly after I moved to Colorado to be with Jim. I spoke to Mr. Condon and when I asked him, he said that he is a Licensed Professional Counselor/Rehabilitation Counselor. We questioned him about his techniques and philosophies regarding counseling and we we liked his response. He was frank with us and told us he did "NOT specialize" in marriage/couples counseling. We respected his candor and still wanted to pursue counseling with him. He suggested a "trial" first session at a reduced rate, we took him up on that and we have been more than pleased since as we continue pursuing his counseling. Mr. Condon has been a boon to our relationship!
We have been helped by Mr. Condon's pro-active manner of counseling. We got right to issues Jim and I had been struggling with, and Mr. Condon has helped us clarify and resolve these problems. I myself believe I have made tremendous personal progress with deep seated, 20 year old issues, and this in turn has helped with all my interpersonal relationships.
Mr. Condon's methods have been beneficial to Jim and me. He has techniques and insights that neither the Psychologists nor Professional Counselors, who have worked with me in the past, had/have. We pay full price for Mr. Condon's expertise and feel he is worth every bit of the $95/session fee. We would even pay more to get the help he is giving us. Both Jim and I would highly recommend Mr. Condon to any friend or family member who could benefit from professional counseling. I enjoy the home office setting, there is a clean and warm feeling surrounding the table where we get a lot of good work done.
Mr. Condon's professionalism is conductive to Jim and I in reaching our goal of learning to better process things and live in greater harmony with each other. Mark Condon has a special simpatico, intuition, or instinct (call it what you will) for what he does in his counseling sessions. I definitely feel his expertise should be more available to others. Please feel free to contact us with any questions or to clarify what we have written.
Sincerely,
Jim and Debbie
To Whom It May Concern:
I offer this letter as a recommendation of Mark Condon's counseling abilities. He worked with me while interning at Bayaud Industries (a vocational rehabilitation facility). Six years prior to Mr. Condon's counsel, I suffered three major traumas: I was diagnosed with cancer; my spouse passed away; and my only son passed away. I had fully expected to adjust to these tragic circumstances, but instead I suffered with post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and severe depression. I isolated myself in the mountains of Colorado for several years. While I was there, I did seek professional guidance on a weekly basis with a very good counselor. This was helpful at times, but I just could not get out from under the effect my losses had on me.
In my attempt to break out of the grip of depression and PTSD, I moved to Denver. I got involved with Bayaud and different things but I would often break down in tears and everything was overwhelming. My future looked hopeless to me. Then I met Mr. Condon and I trusted him right away, I told him my story the second day we met. He immediately took it upon himself to research and get information on HOSPICE support groups. With all the dates, times, terms, and places, he gently insisted that I go to HOSPICE. He even offered to go with me as I was very hesitant.
He was in tune to the fact that I probably would not have gone had he not encouraged me. As it turned out the sessions that we did attend were instrumental in helping me to get out from under my losses. I learned to "accommodate" my grief and gained a new lease on life with which I have pursued a career in nursing. I am now a Certified Nurses Assistant and able to apply what I have learned in my grief and losses to a new and rewarding career.
Mr. Condon was one of the most important factors in my success, and I do not know if it would have happened without him. He kept reminding me how "valuable" and important I am. I owe Mark more than thank yous for being a resourceful counselor, a good listener, and a supportive friend when I needed one. I will be forever grateful for his understanding. I hope this letter is helpful for you in determining if Mark John Condon is the kind of counselor you are looking for. Please call me with any questions.
Sincerely,
Janet

Dear Ms. Moore:
My name is Carl. My wife Mary has been at Mediplex since suffering from a brain aneurysm injury.
I was only able to attend three of the family counseling sessions with Mark Condon but I found these to be very informative, and very helpful. Mr. Condon has given me a great deal of insight into the nature of brain injury, which has greatly helped align my expectations for my wife.
At one time we all asked Mr. Condon how he got involved with the counseling profession. He made reference to the doctor who led the group he co-facilitated. The doctor's advice was that what Mr. Condon learned through experience, could never be learned from a text book, and that Mr. Condon should pursue counseling professionally because he can put into words the feelings and unasked questions people experience post brain injury. I find this to be an apt description of the advantage Mr. Condon brings to his counseling sessions.
I remember expressing my bewilderment over how it was possible for God to allow someone who lived so right (my wife) to be instantly struck down and left unable to care at all for herself anymore. Mr. Condon redirected my thoughts as he explained: We cannot separate a wave from its body of water, and we should not separate a person (my wife) from her family/community; that what I am experiencing because of her condition may be more difficult than what she is experiencing; and that although we cannot know for certain why things happen, if we step back and look at the whole ocean we get a better understanding than if we only look at a single wave. He went on to explain that as we (our children included) face this situation together we have the opportunity to grow, and that we should expect our family to take on a "different shape", like water does under different circumstances.
Clearly it is not just what he said, but also the way he said it that was so beneficial for me. I found Mark Condon's discreet emphasis on the spiritual aspect of healing and recovery to be most helpful. I would highly recommend that his counseling sessions become available to all families and friends of brain injured persons in the future.
Sincerely,
Carl _________________________________________________________________ University of Northern Colorado

Dear Department Chair:
I am writing in regard to Mark John Condon who was my vocational evaluator when I went through an evaluation at University of Northern Colorado in March of this year.
I myself am recovering from a 1991 car accident which left me disabled and was recently diagnosed with cerebellum dysfunction and peripheral neuropathy with stroke disabling results. Prior to the accident, I worked in the travel industry for 19 years and was the developer/owner of _______ Travel Colorado.
During this time in the Denver area, I received top honors in airline sales, four years in a row. Approaching the vocational evaluation, I found myself very nervous and possibly frightened due to my physical and mental losses. Mr. Condon simply put me at ease and understood my frustrations. He explained the procedures we would follow in a very professional manner and answered all my questions thoroughly. When we had completed my evaluation, Mr. Condon took the initiative to contact a local company and arranged an interview for a position in which I was interested. Perceiving that I was nervous, he took the time and effort to accompany me to the interview.
Mr. Condon highlighted my strengths and clearly explained my weaknesses and disabilities. I finished the interview easily and was offered the position within a week! I want to point out that Mr. Condon's participation in contacting the company, going to the interview, etc., was completely on his own initiative, solely for my benefit. It was not a part of his class work, which only required the vocational evaluation.
I have only the highest regard for the excellent, professional, and caring manner that Mr. Condon demonstrates. He is definitely a great asset in his chosen career. You can contact me at _____________, and I will be happy to answer any questions you may have regarding Mark John Condon. I feel fortunate to have known this young man.
Sincerely, Jenny

HOPE, OPPORTUNITY AND CHOICE
January 19, 1999
To Whom it May Concern,
It is with pleasure that I write this recommendation for Mark John Condon. Mark John completed an internship with our company in December of 1998. I was his supervisor and by the end of the semester he demonstrated excellence in advocacy situations and a ability unmatched for connecting one-to-one with clients. For instance while working with a 19 year old, learning disabled, client, who was about to be terminated because of his non-involvement, Mark John was able to make a connection and help him set realistic goals, thus greatly improving his involvement and personal life.
One day a young, violent/threatening, autistic client, who would not let anyone approach him and was determined to leave early. Mark John just sat near the client's workstation (which was "allowed") without saying a word. After some time and with a few words of acknowledgement from Mark John, the client de-escalated, displayed a clam countenance and stayed for the entire day. As a member of our rehabilitation team, Mark John demonstrated enthusiasm while participating in staff meetings, special task force meetings, staffings with referral sources and intakes with new clients. He was known for offering helpful suggestions and bringing a different perspective on the issues of discussion.
I recommended to Mark John that he avoid being stuck behind a desk in a "paper pushing" job. Rather, I feel he should find one that emphasizes the personal contact/ counseling skill, which he has a flair for. Mark John is enthusiastic dedicated, hard working and very resourceful. I feel certain that in the right position, with adequate support, Mark John will greatly benefit the agency and people he works for and with. In fact, if or when a position becomes available at Bayaud, and Mark John is available, we will seek him out to work with us as a full time staff member.
If you have any questions about Mark John Condon's internship here at Bayaud Industries, please feel free to call at your convenience.
Sincerely, Susan Richardson,

To Whom It May Concern:
This letter is in reference to my association with Mark Condon while he was a Rehabilitation Counselor Intern at Mediplex Rehabilitation Hospital.
I am the Director of Radiology at Sunrise and the, mother of a 28-year old man who has suffered three episodes of minor brain injury as a child. I had the opportunity to attend the Family-Group Counseling Series developed and led by Mr. Condon here at the hospital.
The Family-Group was a revolving series of six indepen1ent sessions to benefit the families of brain injury survivors: AVM's, CVA's, strokes, TBI's, tumors, etc. The purpose of the Family-Group was to provide a forum for family education on a variety of topics such as: the nature of head injury; getting to know the new person; and factors in long term improvement. The "tool" of the series was the 50-page document, researched and written by Mr. Condon.
There was ample opportunity for sharing fears and confusion, and for asking questions. Mr. Condon answered all the questions, acknowledged the position of each person, and proved to be a very capable mentor/ counselor for the group. Many of our patient's family members told me what a great help this series has been for dealing with their grief, loss, expectations, and in establishing a new relationship with their brain injured loved ones.
It has given me a much greater understanding of what the patients atSunrise Rehabilitation Hospital are going through, and it has improved my relationship with my son. Mr. Condon is skillful with the perception and insight it takes to encourage people to recognize their fears, generalizations, worries, etc., and to use the tools or strategies he offers to work towards a better adjustment. I recommend Mark Condon as a counselor and integral part of the rehabilitation team, for both people struggling with disability and their family. Please feel free to contact me with any questions. To whom it may concern:
Mark John Condon requested that I write a letter of recommendation on his behalf.
I first became acquainted with Mr. Condon in the fall of 1995 when he was a student at the University of Northern Colorado in the graduate program in Rehabilitation Counseling. At the time, I was an assistant professor in that program and was later one of his teachers.
Initially, I became aware of Mr. Condon due to the power of his very positive personality. Long before I introduced myself, I had noted his interactions with colleagues in the Department and felt there was something extraordinary about him. Largely out of curiosity, I reviewed his entrance file and that is when I first learned about Mr. Condon's personal experience with traumatic brain injury. This led to a conversation with him, during which I requested that he speak to my class about his experience with traumatic brain injury; the class was Introduction to Human Rehabilitation Services. I had no idea what an impact Mr. Condon would make upon me and many of the students in my class.
Of all the speakers who came to my class, Mr. Condon made the greatest impression. He increased our understanding of the incredible disorientation and loss of self that can be the consequence of injury to the brain. I had many students indicate that his presentation was so moving, their perception of disability would never again be the same. Other students indicated that they decided to pursue a degree in rehabilitation as a result of Mark John's presentation.
As an instructor, I was impressed with the amount of effort and energy Mr. Condon invested in his presentation. I realized it was more than simply an opportunity to share insights he possessed but was in fact a mission he has chosen for his life's work. Mr. Condon believes that his personal experiences afford him a unique insight into the needs of people with traumatic brain injury. His goal is to learn as much as he can about this disability in order to better serve the rehabilitation needs of persons who sustain this type of injury.
Mr. Condon has continually researched the literature concerning this disability. His personal reaction to his own traumatic brain injury is nothing short of inspirational. Mark John is an impressive human being and this is why he has such an impact on people. There are many positive things I can say about Mr. Condon. He is a bright individual who asked the best questions in my class, Occupational Information and Job Placement. He is a good communicator, verbally and in writing, who works well with people. He truly cares about people.
Mr. Condon strives for quality and has an excellent work ethic. His sense of humor and compassion are truly endearing. Of all the students I have worked with, Mr. Condon is exceptional from many standpoints. I know that Mark John hopes to pursue employment in some aspect of rehabilitation for head injured individuals. I could not more strongly support such involvement as I feel he is exactly the type of person that this field should embrace.
Mr. Condon's insights, experiences and talents make him the type of person who can contribute extensively to this field. Whether he is a counselor, researcher, administrator or practitioner, Mr. Condon is a gifted individual who has much to offer. He is an outstanding role model as well as a capable professional. He represents the power of the human being to overcome severe disability and to seek self-actualization in the face of disaster. It has been a great learning experience for me to know Mark John Condon.

To whom it may concern:
It is my distinct pleasure to recommend Mark John Condon for your consideration in his pursuit of the graduate degree in your department at this time. My association with Mr. Condon began with his involvement in clinical treatment of persons with acquired traumatic brain injuries in our practice in Fort Collins, Colorado in June, 1993. In my capacity as facilitator of an ongoing brain-injury support and therapy group, I have had the occasion to observe Mr. Condon's considerable impacts on others in their adjustment and recovery from significant disruption in their lives secondary to the misfortune of head injury.
The extensive treatment exposure and background which Mark John brings to this situation enriches his contributions greatly. The gains which he has made through diligent personal efforts serve as an inspiration to me as well as to his peers in the support group. I saw that these others drew strength and solace from the experiences which he shared and from his adaptive processing of the many issues of recovery.
Mr. Condon exhibits other qualities which lead me to believe his choice of Rehabilitation Counseling is very appropriate at this juncture. He displays good counseling "micro-skills" such as active, reflective listening techniques, summarizing and paraphrasing, and drawing out other people's feelings. A particular strength has been Mark John's ability to choose very constructive terminology and imagery to explain and reframe his listener's confusions and concerns in a manner which helps them to grasp ideas in new and therapeutic ways, sometimes allowing them to reach insights which are healing experiences. For example, when Mr. Condon read the letter he had recently written to the perpetrator of his own injuries, it evoked very strong feelings in the group given his most eloquent and genuine statement of the life-changing events which he addressed therein. In my professional judgment, Mr. Mark John Condon will make an excellent candidate for your program in Rehabilitation Counseling, as he brings a rich recovery background with him and as he has himself , rehabilitated many of the functional abilities which are so crucial in adaptation following debilitating injury. I believe such a training opportunity will assist him in discovering his true potential both vocationally and personally. I have been inspired myself by his adaptive survivorship and by his willingness to devote himself to the concerns of others in recovery (interactions which he has reported to me are deeply gratifying for him). Your closest consideration of his current application for acceptance into your graduate Rehabilitation Counseling program is well advised.
Sincerely yours,

RE: Mark John Condon Counselor's Position
Mark John has been working with all of my 24 students since the first day of school.
He has helped counsel them as a whole group about how to get along and be positive influences for each other. The students immediately developed a strong and friendly rapport with Mr. Condon. He has assisted them in being in touch with their feelings and understanding how to react in positive ways. Mr. John (as the students refer to him) had the kids role play and act out different scenarios of real-life situations which better prepares them for the real thing.
I had one particular student named _____________ in my classroom who had a very difficult time making friends. When I brought it to Mr. Condon's attention, he stepped in and developed a behavior modification plan with _____________. They used a little chart to keep at his desk and if _____________ had a day with no behavior problems he would earn a star. It was understood that when he earned 14 stars he would "earn" a winter coat (one of many provided by a charity organization for many children, of course _____________ did not know that) for himself and his sister.
This agreement worked right from initiation to completion and the positive behavior pattern established by _____________ continued to the end of the school year. It is wonderful to have Mr. Condon's help and expertise in our building. I have utilized him on many occasions to provide counseling, assure safety, and/or adjust attitudes in my classroom.
He has always taken on the tasks efficiently and confidently. Mark John Condon has established a working program focusing on social skills in small group sessions. I know the students in my classroom have benefited tremendously from his efforts and involvement.

Re: Mark John Condon and the Counselor's Position
On February 11th a parent scheduled a conference during my lunch break and arrived in tears. Her daughter had been saying, "I want to die. Your life would be better without me." And the mother did not know what to do. I called our counselor Mark John Condon, and he quickly changed his lesson plan to accommodate an emergency meeting. I consider myself privileged to have observed Mr. Condon's intervention strategies for I found his expertise astounding! The girl was glad to be in his office but when he asked (for her sake) why she was there, she shrugged her shoulders.
Then her mother told her he knew that she had repeatedly threatened to kill herself, and the girl broke down sobbing uncontrollably. Mr. Condon counseled both the child and the parent as he sat on the floor eye level with the girl. Because of his well-chosen words and his gentle, reassuring delivery, the child instantly began to respond through her tears. She openly experienced a wide range of emotions from the loss, anger, and fear of her natural father (divorced from her mother) who forgets her birthdays, ignores her needs, and makes random, hurtful contacts.
It was impressive to watch a child, who was seeking death, make an "adjustment," and seek the life and love of her family. Within an hour of the counseling session, the withdrawn child crumpled into her mother's arms, let herself be kissed, and expressed her love for both her mother and stepfather (neither of which she had reportedly done for two and a half months). Mr. Condon continued working with both the child and the mother who was blaming herself for almost everything. Together they developed a positive plan of action, which addresses the loss of love from the natural father (who reportedly hates the mother and takes it out on the daughter), and helps the girl deal with his repeated lies.
Mr. Condon has since met twice a week with the family and they report a great benefit from his involvement. As a classroom teacher, I saw a withdrawn, unhappy, apathetic child make an amazing adjustment. Since February 14th she completes her homework, meets the standard of daily lessons, participates in class discussions, and smiles and laughs with friends. I watched her grades move from "needs to improve" to "excellent."
To me it has been quite remarkable! I was very thankful that Brown Elementary had the counselor Mark John Condon in the building on February 11th. We would have tried something else without him, but I can not imagine anything would have been as effective as his intervention.
Mr. Condon has had similar success with other kids, experiencing different concerns, in my classroom. It is my hope that Mark John Condon will continue his counseling interventions to help our students at Brown Elementary for many years. I know that with his help the students will use their time, talent, and energy to become their best.
Sincerely,
Dr. Judith Girard
Dear Mr. George Schnittgund:
I want to add my recommendation of Mark John Condon to the record. He has intervened in my classroom throughout the year and made wonderful progress with children having emotional difficulties. Marissa was as if in a shell, not talking to me or any other students, after some time with "Mr. John" she opened up, began to talk, caught up academically, and avoided being held back. One boy, who comes from a homeless, alcoholic family, but is extremely intelligent, had shut down to the point where he was doing very little work in school or at "home".
I requested that Mr. Condon work with this boy and after only three sessions, the child began producing the excellent work he is capable of, plus his angry outbursts and striking of other children stopped (this positive behavior adjustment continued throughout the year). Another intervention that stands out is his successful work with the parents of a bipolar child. The parents told me that Mr. Condon counseled them about responsible parenting and the skills and school expectations they need to work on with the child.
The parents reported great success at home and I saw a big difference in the child at school. Mr. Condon has a dynamic, non-assuming quality about him and is very approachable with all the children. The children in my class all responded to him in a positive way. After interacting with Mr. Condon they are encouraged (brightened spirits) and more in control of their emotions. When children return to class after personal work with him, they begin participating, doing their class work, answering questions and their faces seem to light up.
Mr. Condon demonstrated an ability that I have seldom seen matched when it comes to adult-child relationships. He has demonstrated an approach to our kids that, helps them help themselves in adjusting to the demands of school and society. I do hope Denver Public Schools creates a counselor position for Elementary Schools in support of our student body and the teachers.
I do not know how I would have been able to handle all the issues in my classroom this year without the School Counselor, Mr. Condon. He improved the education of everyone in my classroom by working with the few identified students.
Thank you for your time and consideration
Mr. Schnittgrund.
Sincerely, Sandy Green
Dear George:
As you know I first met Mark John Condon in September of 1999, and it was my pleasure to work with him until March 2000. He was of great help to my fourth grade students and me while he was at Brown Elementary. I watched him tackle each and every task calmly, with both knowledge and understanding. In the short time I have known him; he worked with troubled students both individually and in groups, solving anger issues, family problems, etc., that were adversely affecting them. One child, in the first week of September before you came to Brown, would not get out of his mother's car and absolutely refused to enter the school. After everyone had failed, Mr. Condon went out and talked with the boy and his family for a short time and got him to agree to come into class and begin learning.
Another child, who transferred to Brown from a Wyoming reservation, felt her whole life had ended, was extremely sad, and could not continue in the classroom. When Mr. Condon began working with this child, and the class, the change was phenomenal. She is now functioning well both in class and with her peers. One more situation I want to point out was when five girls in my class were out of control and had formed two groups, one against the other, I was at my wits end when I asked Mr. Condon to intervene, he took them out of class for a short while and the girls came back as if friends agreeing to work out their issues! I was so thankful for his support that day.
These are just a couple of examples of the many children Mr. Condon has significantly helped while he was at Edward Brown Elementary. I hope Mark John Condon never stops working with children, because he excels at connecting with them, helping them to face their problems, and in working out their issues.
This points to a conviction that I never even considered before: Counselors are needed in the Elementary Schools. Please do what you can to communicate this to the Administration for me.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
